PRESS RELEASE - 31 MAY 2000
AMBULANCE NIGHTMARE? NEXT SPRING BANK HOLIDAY?

On Holiday Monday, 29 May this year, twenty-two 'blue light ambulances were received at the Kidderminster General Hospital A & E department.

The sick or injured patients came from Kidderminster, Stourport, Hagley, Rock and on the Worcester Road. Four casualties were brought from the Safari Park, two of these by St John's Ambulances.

If this happens after the A & E department at Kidderminster is closed in September or October this year ambulance vehicles and crews will be tied up for up to 30 hours extra (assuming a 40 minute journey time to and from Worcester).

How can the Ambulance Service cope with this extra demand forced on them simply by increased journey times?
