Major Changes Announced
to Continue Party Growth.

At their annual party conference, Sunday 7th September, Independent Health Concern announced a series of improvements and structural changes to take the party forward in its continuing growth and influence in local and national politics.

In presenting the changes Howard Martin said
"To reflect our commitment to the community our name is being amended to
"Independent Community & Health Concern" – we recognise that there are those who, wrongly, still brand us as single issue but we know we long ceased to be just that and our new name will give that focus and identity to the community and to the broad issues we have addressed for some time now."

Dr Richard Taylor said
"NHS issues will always be of vital importance to us, especially now the abolition of prescription charges, improvements in quality of care and the need for a public debate on healthcare rationing to make resources available for new treatments is so much to the fore. We have never been a single issue party and to underline this we are widening our name and appeal while retaining the defining
"Independent" and the time-honoured "Health Concern."

The Party's core values were highlighted as:-

· The provision and protection of free, quality, health care on demand and at the point of need for local residents.

· The promise to listen and hear what the community want for the area in which they live.

· The continuing development of our established "bottom up" approach to community involvement.

· The promise to consult the community on matters which affect them.

· To offer an independent voice, free from national party directives and dogma, for local benefit.

· To always put People before Politics.

The establishment of "Young Health Concern," was also announced offering support for local youth and young people, with full details to follow shortly.

Howard Martin concluded the announcement by saying,
"We believe many people are increasingly disillusioned with the main political parties and have ceased to vote. Also, there are those who do not respect or trust politicians. We want to win over those voters by offering an honest, listening, community caring, hard working and independent alternative that can be trusted to put people before party politics.

The changes announced today are, therefore, just the start in those aims. We have an exciting time ahead and Independent Community & Health Concern is here to stay"

The Party also announced its intention to contest the Worcestershire County Council elections and Euro elections due to be held next year. – "as a beginning to widening our appeal outside Wyre Forest".

The party was established in 1999 out of the campaign group set up to fight the down grading of Kidderminster Hospital. Since then it has held seats on Wyre Forest District Council and Worcestershire County Council as well as Bewdley and Stourport Town Councils.

In 2001 Dr Richard Taylor was elected MP for Wyre Forest on the Health Concern, Independent ticket and held the seat at the 2005 general election.

The party is now well established as the second best supported in Wyre Forest, being bigger in supporter base than both Labour and Liberal Democrats and currently forming the official opposition on the local Council.

Whilst the initial focus was driven by NHS issues the party now offers a broad based, multi issue alternative to the traditional parties, its main ethos being that local politics should be "bottom up" and driven by community need not national party policies.

Independent Community & Health Concern celebrates 10 years in existence in March 2009
