"Not only has the incinerator
appeal has been rejected.
But Severn Waste have said in a statement that it had taken legal
advice not to challenge the decision of the six week public inquiry
!
The Evesham-based company must now go back to the drawing-board
with its clients - Worcestershire County Council and Herefordshire
Council - to decide whether to opt for another site.
Malcolm Cooper (Vice-Chairman or Wyre Forest campaigning pressure
group Health Concern) said,
"We are
absolutely delighted by the decision that there will be no further
action on the incinerator.
This is an example of 'People Power' - which is open, truthful and
realistic.
It shows that if people are prepared to speak-out, Government will
(eventually) listen."
Wyre Forest M.P. Dr.
Richard Taylor feared the plant would pose a threat to the
long-term health of his constituents.
The Independent M.P. gave evidence at the inquiry into the plans,
which provoked a petition signed by 15,000 people.
The 40 million pound facility formed
an integral part of the 25 year contract signed by Severn Waste and
its clients to 'manage' waste in Worcestershire and Herefordshire."
