Vote
of confidence for MP
A CALL for the resignation of Wyre
Forest MP David Lock was defeated at Wednesday night’s Wyre
Forest District Council meeting.
The motion, tabled by Liberals in Kidderminster, was defeated
26-11 as ruling Labour closed ranks.
There were two abstentions — including Labour councillor
Steve Rushton.
A Labour motion ‘‘applauding’’ Mr Lock and recognising
‘‘that the decision taken on the future of the hospital by
Alan Milburn, minister of health, is an improvement’’ was
eventually carried by 22 votes to nine with seven abstentions.
The Liberal motion had declared: ‘‘This council deplores
the Government decision to downgrade and ruin Kidderminster
hospital.
‘‘Council pledges to re-double its efforts to save the
hospital and demands the resignation of Wyre Forest Member of
Parliament David Lock, who has inexplicably described this
wanton act of Government vandalism and destruction as good
news for Kidderminster.’’
Speaking after the meeting, Liberal leader councillor Mike
Oborski said: ‘‘Tonight was a tragedy.
‘‘Tonight was the night Labour dumped the hospital.
‘‘They should crawl away and die of shame.’’
