I have been at home during the past week during the Whit / Jubilee recess. I have enjoyed every minute of it starting with the honour of laying the Foundation Stone of the new Kidderminster College with Ken Stokes our new Mayor. The Annual General Meeting of the Hospital League of Friends was well-attended despite the League's relatively low profile at the moment. The message is that the League is continuing its activities but guarding its money very carefully so it will be available when needed to help restore any services to our hospital. Its money will only be used for the benefit of local people from whom it has come. Peter Forester the chief executive of the Wyre Forest Primary Care Trust (PCT) spoke about the new arrangements in the NHS for PCTs to hold the purse strings and really have the power to make changes in service provision. It was a pleasure to see at the meeting Mr David Priestnall and Mr Mike O'Riordan, chairs of the PCT and Acute Hospitals Trust respectively. The latter's presence demonstrated a welcome interest in our area that has long been hard to see. They would have left the meeting in no doubt about the determination of local people to continue to press for better and fairer provision of hospital services.
