Worcestershire PCT ranked a lowly 141st in England

A report by an NHS watchdog The Healthcare Commission has found that Emergency Care Services at Worcestershire Primary Care Trust are among the worst performing in England.

This places Worcestershire PCT in the bottom group of "Least Well Performing" trusts .. [Fair and Least Well Performing mean the trust areas were not hitting targets or standards] .. with the county scoring badly on answering 'phone calls and out-of-hours services.

However, the ambulance services received praise.

The Healthcare Commission reported concern about the state of emergency care services across England after looking at

  • Accident & Emergency
  • Out-of-Hours General Practitioner service
  • NHS Direct,
  • 'Walk-In'
  • Ambulance Care.

Paul Bates, Chief Executive of Worcestershire PCT, [Click here for a link to PCT Board Members..Ed] said improvements had already been made, and that most of its failings related to its GP out-of-hours service which is being replaced.

"As of Wednesday next week, [1st Oct 2008..Ed] a completely new GP out-of-hours service will start for Worcestershire and that will give a much better service," he said.

He added that the new service would be run by a specialist provider using a new computer system and new vehicles

"Telephone response times were expected to be 'much quicker'."
